An inclusive and cohesive society which draws on its cultural and linguistic diversity to enhance the social, economic and cultural development of the State.
To lead Western Australia in achieving the full potential of multiculturalism.
The Office of Multicultural Interests’ Strategic Plan 2009–2013 sets a new direction for multiculturalism in Western Australia, with clear goals and strategies for ensuring that people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are able to participate fully in society.
- Participation:Full participation of CaLD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) communities in social, economic and cultural life.
- Equity:Remove the barriers to equity experienced by CaLD communities.
- Promotion:Promote the benefits of Western Australia's cultural and linguistic diversity.
A key action arising from OMI’s Strategic Plan 2009–2013 relates to citizenship and specifically support for civic development, participation and contribution to public life.
OMI provides funding support to Celebrate WA and the Australia Day Council who undertake programs and services that support this action.
OMI is not responsible for Citizenship (naturalisation), visa or immigration matters. For information about immigration or becoming an Australian Citizen, please contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship on 13 18 81 or visit www.immi.gov.au.
